Stroll # 3: Dil To Pagal Hai

Roughly 10 years ago, I took my friends out to watch a movie - movie tickets paid for by me as a birthday treat. A few weeks later I wondered if it was worth nudging myself to be crazy about the movie - I felt the strong need to feel crazy about something, having passed my teens without naturally feeling so about anything at all. But wait, how could I watch the movie by myself? TV was out of question as I didn't have one at home. Going to the movie hall was the only way, but for which I had to find company. But which friend? I was brought up to not be the kind that would pester a friend to do something against the friend's wishes. So how to persuade any friend at all? Most seemed to not be able to tolerate the movie even once. They probably tolerated the first time because it was my birthday treat. Which excuse this time?

A friend (let's call him Sahas, any relation to anyone living is not coincidental), in a moment of loose talk perhaps, defended the movie while a few friends began bashing the movie. I grabbed the opportunity. That weekend, Sahas and I were out watching the movie a 2nd time. He retired hurt after that. A week later, I persuaded another friend (let's call him Thyaga,
any relation to anyone living is not coincidental) who seemed to be a Madhuri Dixit fan, to watch the movie. It was Thyaga's 1st time, and my 3rd time. Yet another week or two later, it was the turn of a guy named Sandeep, perhaps one of the few guys I didn't mind pestering and dragging to a movie he wouldn't have wanted to watch. Sandeep's 1st time, my 4th time. I lost track of who I watched the movie with for the 5th time - all 5 times in a movie hall. Craze accomplished!

P.S: I watched the movie at least 5 other times at home, making it 10+ times. Craze over-accomplished!

Over to the praise of the # 1 point of the movie - not Shahrukh, not Madhuri, not Karishma, not even Yash Chopra. It was Uttam Singh, the music director! A honorable # 2 point of the movie - the choreography of Shiamak Davar.

Songs listed in the order in which I recollect having first heard the songs:
