SRGMP-Mentor's Choice (Vol 1)

Let's assume for the purpose of this post, that I am a Bollywood music director, and that I happen to be invited to Sa Re Ga Ma Pa to be the mentor. Now there are songs aplenty for male playback singing, so let me switch to female playback singing. Let me imagine I had to mentor a girl candidate with a sweet voice. Let's call her Nihira, to actually draw comparisons to an actual candidate in the 2005 season of SaReGaMaPa. Whenever I had to advise Nihira on her songs, I'd go with the following, assuming of course that Nihira sung these very well. The themes are varied considering candidates are asked to sometimes sing based on the theme of the day (e.g. folk songs, classical songs, discos, and so on).

Song Title: Dekha Teri Mast
Music Director: Jatin-Lalit
Original Singer: Asha Bhosle

Note # 1:
The theme is ...well, you know it. I'd expect Nihira to have challenges with this one, considering she belongs to the "Shreya Ghoshal" school. Nothing against the school, just that the theme doesn't come naturally to such a school.

Note # 2:
Expect Nihira to sing only Asha's portion of the song (starting around 4.5 minutes into the song), not Kumar Sanu's.
Also, the first 1.5 minutes are slow, so wait through (or fast forward) the first 1.5 minutes.

Song Title: Madhosh Dil Ki Dhadkan
Music Director: Jatin Lalit
Original Singer: Lata Mangeshkar

Note # 1:
This is a mellow song that I'd expect to be well within the comfort zone for Nihira. I'd recommend her to sing the last verse that starts with "Kehna tha jo" and has portions of both, Lata and Kumar Sanu.

Cool.

My favorite song of Nihira is "nigaahen milaane ko jee chaahta hai". She sang it so freely and with such a great style.

Btw, there was a little girl who wore glasses and had bobcut hair in SRGMP around 2007 timeframe. It could have been lil champs but I don't remember too well. She sang KJ Yesudas' "ni sa ga ma pa... aa aa re mitva". She was very confident every time she sang. Do you happen to know her name? Thanks in advance.

My favorite of Nihira happens to be "Kajra re" and "Chup Chup Ke". In fact, I don't remember her singing Nigaahen Milaane ko (couldn't find on youtube either). Let me know if you find a link somewhere.

About the girls in glasses - nope, I don't remember at all. In case it was Little champs or Indian idol, then I'll definitely not have seen it.

Sorry wasn't of help.
